Dallas Wants Exemption From Open Carry Law

Over a year ago in response to a large push from Don’t Comply events, other organizations and local citizens, Texas House and Senate passed a bill to allow open carry of handguns. Representative Eric Johnson does not agree with his fellow citizens having the power to open carry. Johnson has introduced a bill to allow Dallas to opt-out of the open carry law.

Johnson stated “Open carry is a bad idea in my personal opinion from a public safety standpoint but I’m not a police chief… and I’m not on the Dallas City Council, but I do believe that’s where that decision should lie,”

[adinserter block=”3″] This is another constant reminder that our fight for freedom is never over. Johnson does not side with his fellow Texans who ran a long hard fight to get open carry. The goal of his bill is to give each city in Texas the power to exclude their citizens from a Constitutional Right.

The next step of this bill is to be discussed during an upcoming Texas Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee in which Johnson serves as a council member. Vice Chair of the Committee is another famous anti-gunner Rep. Poncho Nevarez who had a run in with Gun Rights activist Kory Watkins. 

These Homeland Security Councils and Committees are a way to push federal agendas such as gun control through local policy leaders, using grant money to entice local officials into playing ball. We have seen many examples of this fighting for gun rights. One of the largest opponents of open carry, The Chief of Police in Austin, Art Acevedo who hails from California also serves on another Homeland Security Council. While fighting open carry Art Acevedo implied he would prefer a girl be raped and then go to counseling vs actually being armed to defend herself.
