We’ve learned this morning that an Albuquerque woman who checked into UNM Hospital on Friday is not infected with the Ebola virus.
The Bernalillo County woman went to the University of New Mexico Hospital last week with symptoms that included a sore throat, headache, muscle aches and fever.
There’s been no word as to the cause of her symptoms or whether or not she remains hospitalized.
A woman in Sacramento has also been informed this week that she tested negative for the virus that has killed nearly 1500 people this year.
“We’re happy to report that we have heard from the Center for Disease Control that the test result is negative,” said Dr. Ron Chapman of the California Department of Public Health.
This bit of good news comes as the two Americans being treated for Ebola at Emory University Hospital in Georgia have been released and reunited with their families.
Missionary Nancy Writebol, of SIM USA, was discharged Tuesday and Samaritan’s Purse doctor Kent Brantly was discharged on Thursday.
“I am thrilled to be alive, to be well, and to be reunited with my family,” said Brantly.
At least 2,473 people have been sickened in this outbreak – more than the caseloads of all the previous two-dozen Ebola outbreaks combined, according to the World Health Organization.
