(KCEN) — Gun enthusiasts from across the county came to Temple today and brought their guns.
A YouTube video of a soldier disarmed by a Temple Police officer triggered a rally in defense of the Second Amendment.
When Sergeant C.J. Grisham posted the video, he had no idea the kind of response it would get.
One of his 5-million viewers was Murdoch Pizgatti who started an online moment for Sgt. Grisham.
And today his supporters came to downtown Temple, armed.
“I feel safer here than I do anywhere else. If I was in a gun-free zone like a school, I’d be scared. Because one weirdo can walk in there and do a lot of damage,” said Pizgatti.
With hand guns and assault rifles 200 people marched Main Street, purposely passing the police department, all in protection of the Second Amendment.
Amongst the crowd was Don Baker, a veteran who served in Vietnam.
He says he’s angry at Temple PD for how they treated Grisham saying, “The Second Amendment protects your First Amendment.”
Before the march, Grisham addressed his supporters saying, if you alter the Second Amendment you chip away from the rest.
And he has no ill feelings toward the Temple Police.
“There are some bad seeds, and it’s up to the people like the ones gathered here to tell our council to do something about those bad seeds,” said Grisham.
And as armed citizens marched in downtown Temple carrying assault rifles, and flags that read ‘Come and Take It’, Grisham reminded his supporters to protect what’s theirs.
“The sight of man or women with a firearm is not something to be feared, it’s something to be respected.”
Grisham’s charges were downgraded from resisting arrest to interfering with a peace officer while performing a duty.
