Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to continue waging war on Hamas Saturday afternoon, saying Israeli operations would continue “at full scale” in order ”to bring back the quiet, peace and calm to citizens of Israel and severely harm terrorist projects.”
The prime minister said he was sorry for the many Palestinians who have been killed and injured during the Israeli incursion into Gaza but warned Hamas that it will “pay an intolerable price” if it continues to fire rockets at Israel.
Netanyahu’s remarks echoed his earlier call for Israelis to be prepared for a “long campaign” that won’t end until Hamas’ tunnel network, reaching under the Gaza-Israel border, is neutralized.
On Friday the Israeli security cabinet decided not to pursue further cease-fire options with Hamas.
The conflict took on a new urgency for the Israeli military after one of their own, 2nd Lt. Hadar Goldin, was reportedly captured by Islamist militants on Friday.
