The time of year is upon us once again, here in Texas. When we gather clothing, toiletries, and food for the less fortunate in downtown Dallas. For the fifth year in a row, a long serving line of food will be set up and served to all who show up to our event with an empty stomach. Activists from all around the area will defy the law once again and participate in this time of giving. Dallas has a city ordinance that says we cannot give food to the hungry without getting their permission.
A gentleman sued the city for enforcing this silly Authoritarian law on him and he got an exemption for his church. So they threw him a table scrap and made it “lawful” as long as he wasn’t nourishing 75 or more people. Our attendees always exceed that. So we should expect a couple of city officials to come by and check that we have “hand sanitizer and food thermometers”. A permit will not be obtained, nor will we be granted authorization. In fact, we will be armed and welcome anyone else who would like to adorn their self-defense tool as well.
Collection locations will be posted on the event page.
This will take place on December 9th, at 11 am until 4 pm.
We’ll be across the street from the Austin Street Shelter. 2901 Hickory St, Dallas, TX 75226.
Hope to see y’all there.
