Sheriff Brad Rogers
Indiana – Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers, successfully stood up for his constituents in a showdown, when the Food and Drug Administration sent in some federal officials to pester a raw milk and organic food farmer.
Sheriff Rogers followed up on a complaint from a local farmer, David Hochstetler and discovered that he would use his position to side with them because he saw that there was no justified cause for the obtrusive inspections that have going on since 2011 around twice a month.
They were searching for a reason to shut down Forest Grove Dairy Farm, so Rogers stepped in and blocked it. Then he started speaking out about it.
The big agriculture backed FDA along with the Department of Justice (DOJ) started the harassment approximately four years ago just because the hard-working farmer was producing raw milk and supplying some of the organic food co-ops. Thankfully, the government’s steady war on small farmers was halted in this particular case. Sheriff Rogers, authored a 600-word break down of the ordeal for the local newspaper in his contribution column called “Ask The Sheriff”.
“Specifically, the FDA was inspecting his farm without a warrant as much as every two weeks. Typical inspections occur annually. The Department of Justice (DOJ) had subpoenaed him for a grand jury in Michigan in which he was to bring his production documents. The Feds wanted to make this farmer an example.”
Rogers continued, “My research concluded that no one was getting sick from this distribution of this raw milk. It appeared to be harassment by the FDA and the DOJ, and making unconstitutional searches, in my opinion. The farmer told me that he no longer wished to cooperate with the inspections of his property.”
Sheriff Rogers wrote to the DOJ and let them know that he would take action if the federal inspectors came without a signed warrant that specified probable cause to give a clear reason why they needed to conduct their invasive searches:
“I understand that you have made recent requests to (the farmer) for documents and to appear before a grand jury, and he has had a number of inspections and attempted inspections on his farm within Elkhart County. This is notice that any further attempts to inspect this farm without a warrant signed by a judge, based on probable cause, will result in federal inspectors’ removal or arrest for trespassing by my officers or I. In addition, if any further action is taken by the federal government on (the farmer), while he is in Elkhart County, I will expect that you or federal authorities contact my office prior to such action. I will expect you to forward this information to your federal associates, including the FDA.”
Soon after his email was sent, the farmer got a certified letter in the mail from the DOJ that notified him that the grand jury subpoena was now cancelled. “Now, over four years later, the FDA inspectors and the DOJ, have not returned to the property since I interposed for the farmer. Some have suggested it was my interposition that caused the feds to stand down. I have no way of knowing this for sure, but the evidence would suggest so,” wrote the sheriff.
Sheriff Rogers exclaimed “Your local elected officials can stem the tide of federal overreach if they apply just a little backbone in supporting and defending the Constitution. Expect it! Demand it! Some bloggers and natural food writers have hailed me as a hero. I’m no hero. I’m just doing my job.” He added, “Many of our parents/grandparents drank raw milk and survived. There are risks with raw milk, but careful handling and storage will mitigate the risk. Many people believe that raw milk is healthier to drink than the pasteurized version. There is no law in Indiana that prohibits the distribution of raw milk in this fashion. In short, I don’t believe the government should be our nanny and telling us what we can or cannot drink/eat.”
These key actions performed by Sheriff Rogers are right and this is what the people should expect and receive from their county sheriff’s and other elected officials.
Rogers came out a few months ago with his firm stance that he would ignore any and all gun control executive orders. With his solution to the problem as abolishing gun free zones. He also defended his decision to visit the Bundy Ranch back during the 2014 stand-off with the Bureau of Land Management.
Sheriff’s possess the most power in their home counties and are locally elected officials that can be a thorn in the side for the federal automatons that are hell-bent on the encroachment of Freedom. Blocking the government overreach in this instance can set forth an example for other sheriff’s to rise up and stand strong for the people they serve. The ultimate solution of educating the populous on how to repel the Tyranny can be accelerated with the continued support of these county bosses.

I grew up on a farm in Indiana, and Mom never pasteurized our milk. The only time that milk got cooked was if a recipe called for it. Because we sold the cream from the milk, our cows had to be tested annually for various diseases and had to be tagged to show that they had been tested.

I lived and worked on a dairy farm. The milk was tested each day for bacteria, etc. We would fill a jug up right from the holding tank. I had no illnesses whatsoever. That was just over twenty years ago. I’m sure that the farmer had the milk tested just as the farm I worked on did.

Indiana once again showing their true colors..they care more about the rights of the “good old boy group” than the safety of its women which is why I will always live in another state, away from my family in a state that takes domestic violenece seriously, unlike Indiana whos no contact orders were violated 11 times and never faced charges. Finally someone who gets it. Too many people take up law enforcement as a way to gain control of the people instead of defending us against unjust laws. The normal response of a police officer when questioned about the validity of a law is “I don’t make the laws, I just enforce them” They don’t care about whether or not what they are doing violates the constitution, our rights and freedoms.
I once had a friend who decided he wanted to be a cop, he was kind of a pathetic sort of person who hadn’t really grown up. I told him that the only reason he wanted to be a cop is so that he could hide behind the badge and his gun and exert power over others. He actually agreed, he didn’t need to because I knew I was right when I said it. Obviously not every law enforcement officer fit this profile but even many of the ones who just want to actually serve and protect don’t give a thought as to whether or not the laws they enforce make sense, much less about if they are constitutional

The police cannot enforce the law. Only a court sitting as a court of law can enforce the law by way of sentencing. Yes, a police officer can force you to follow the law, but what if you choose to not follow the law? Can the police officer then issue a sentence against you as a fine or imprisonment? No. So the police can’t enforce the law. They can bring people before a court so it can enforce the law, but they can’t sit as a court of law themselves.

actually the real problem with raw milk startd from not cleaning the cows well enough before milking. giant dairy farms didnt seem able to keep things clean and with lots of cows walking in their own manure, it gets in the mild, so cooking the life out of it was the easy solution. most that have or do drink raw mild more then likely got it from small farms of one of their own cows.

Your first sentence describes fully what government officials have been banking on when it comes to aiding their big business partners in the dairy market. Pasteurized and homogenized milk can and will become dangerous to consume if improperly stored and not used within the right period of time. The government used an incident way back in the first half of the 20th century where spoiled milk was fed to children in a school and several lost their lives. They made it sound as if their new process would have prevented that. The big dairy industry had been lobbying to make their methods the only methods that milk could be sold. What they did not know was that raw milk carries within it a certain enzyme that aids in staving off respiratory problems in children. Their processes killed that enzyme and we started seeing a huge rise in asthma and other illnesses. It sickens me what monopolies do in a country where that is supposed to be illegal.

I could never fathom how such unethical, low-IQ, sociopaths would rise to the top of the organization, and then wreak havoc on lower-level employees? For the most part, they are really just dumb bullies, who when called on their actions, quiver like babies in a stroller and run for cover. If I was charged with running such a company…ethics would be my top priority, as it is the basis for any long term, successful relationship. Anyone who wants to cut corners on product or employee safety would be terminated or severely disciplined and demoted…( if that is all that can be accomplished). If investors want someone who will cut corners…and in turn…run a great organization into the ground…(i.e…McDonald’s)…so that their stock will go up every quarter and make them wealthy in the short term, then they would have to fire me.

It seems that is always the case with many of our big corporations (especially government). During the time I was growing up, my dad would always warn me about how the inept always seemed to get promoted. During my own rise within my field (Medical Laboratory Technician), I have seen the same over and over again. The unethical would lie, cheat, and swindle their way into power while the good workers were left to pick up after them. So sad….

How about looking into the Not for Profit scams that are popping up everywhere taking animals from longstanding, rightful owners under the claim of abuse where abuse didn’t exist; followed by soliciting for the immediate sale of the animals taken under ‘color of law’ and the fundraising to pay for their newly acquired merchandise.
Improper warrants are served with judges that are blind and deaf to the fact that people have a right to their property and fear doing the right thing to dismiss these cases and the return of the animals. Never before in any type of case, including murder, are people considered guilty before the first hearing. We’re not seeing citations for people to make corrections to an existing problem that may or may not exist and instead the animals (property) are seized and often held improperly or given away on the taking.
Warrant-less searches, warrants lacking probable cause, jail for non jail-able offenses, loss of property and the list goes on and on.

Back in the 1940s I used to stay with my Great Grandparents in their very rural cottage in Norfolk, UK. We had warm raw milk daily; water from the well; transport was a pony and trap; and a privy up the garden path. Raw milk never harmed me and they lived into their nineties.

You have just put light on the real motivation of this whole push behind corporate ownership of food supply! Yes, it’s money also, but first and foremost is to control longevity of life. They own the drug companies which churn out only those remedies that seem to work, usually with benefits offset with risks added in.
The old folks may have had shorter appearing life spans, but look deeper into the numbers and you’ll see the physical risks to life and limb were greater. Those older folks had a much better diet than we have, and that is by design.

That is true, however if you vaccinate your cows, it is now an issue. With proper handling and vaccination, I see no reason to fear raw milk. I too grew up on it. I happen to prefer pasteurized milks taste. Raw milk has different tastes according to the feed cows are fed or if there is a sick cow in the herd.

Pasteurized milk is largely responsible for the “lactose intolerance” epidemic, as pasteurization kills the live enzymes that are vital in digesting (and absorbing as nutrients) the components of milk.

I ended up with TB from working at a daycare center with a large number of clients who were recently from foreign countries. Should we ban daycare centers or immigrants? If we ban everything that causes any type of illness to someone, we will have nothing (I personally can eat no pork products, no glutinous grains, no artificial sweeteners, etc).

I’ve come to believe that lactose intolerance is frequently caused not by pasteurization (which kills off any living germs found in the milk itself), but rather by the use of antibiotics or foods that kill the naturally-occurring gut bacteria that are responsible for digesting lactose.
