The all female Russian punk rock band “Pussy Riot” is now making a stand for Police Brutality in our country too with their music video “ I Can’t Breathe” dedicated to Eric Garner, the guy who got choked to death by armed thugs (NYPD) for selling cigarettes in New York City.
With Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina, now out of prison after serving their 21 month sentences for protesting against President Vladimir Putin by performing their song “Punk Prayer-Mother of God, Chase Putin Away!” Since it was at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior Church in Moscow it was considered “Hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and were charged and convicted. Eventually both were released on December 23rd 2013. They recently performed at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, where they were assaulted by the Cossacks with whips and pepper spray. Then in March of 2014 Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina were attacked and sprayed with green paint by a group of teens in Novgorod. So they are no stranger to abrasive action and injustice. This music video, depicts two Pussy Riot band members being buried in a shallow grave sporting Russian police uniforms, to mock their confrontations with Russian police.
“This song is for Eric and for all those from Russia to America and around the globe who suffer from state terror – killed, choked, perished because of war and state sponsored violence of all kinds – for political prisoners and those on the streets fighting for change,” says a statement accompanying the video. “We stand in solidarity.”

Here are the lyrics:
“He’s become his death The spark of the riots
That’s the way he’s blessed
To stay alive.
It never leads to an end
It’s never getting quiet
If it’s unfair, my friend,
Make up your mind
It’s getting dark in New York city
It’s getting dark in New York city
It’s getting tight in New York city
I need to catch my breath
You know this world of hate
You know this stubborn light
They’re in the prayers you pray
Late at night
We’re only half way down
Who dares to take a breath?
Some fairness might be found
From ashes of his death.”
