“Don’t Mess with Texas?”
Apparently, our Governor, Greg Abbott, does not understand what this means. What does “Don’t Mess With Texas” mean exactly? To the rational mind it means that in Texas, there is zero tolerance for those who infringe on the freedom of others and those rights are considered sacred and non-negotiable as long as the citizens conduct themselves with respect and recognition of the rights granted to us by our creator; that no entity from the state will step in to infringe on any of the liberties that are granted to us by our creator. But according to Governor Abbott, in Texas, your right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness has been overridden by the mighty fist of the authoritarian structure that values corruption and lies over truth and justice.
Abbott openly admits that he does not believe in these basic and vital American principles when it comes to the topic of cannabis or even medical cannabis. He believes that the state has the authority to deny Texans their God-given rights as human beings. He said in the past that he will never sign a bill to decriminalize or legalize cannabis. While some believed he now has compassion because he reluctantly signed the discriminatory “Compassionate Use” bill that allows the use of CBD oil, but only for those with epilepsy. This bill demonstrates how Greg Abbott is a massive failure as a governor and a pathetic defender of the constitution. The bill is so flawed that it may not even benefit people with epilepsy because it prohibits any level of THC even if one’s doctor deems it necessary and the law requires a prescription which is illegal under federal law as opposed to a doctor’s recommendation, which is what all other medical marijuana states use to ensure that their patients have access to medicine. Not only is it questionable as to whether it will even help those who have epilepsy due to the THC ban, it is discriminatory by nature by precluding all other patients who have ailments that medical cannabis could improve or alleviate.
Equal protection for all is a constitutional right. This current situation is a travesty. Just ask the family of Alexis Bortell, a Texan who has epilepsy and was forced to flee the state as a political refugee in order to avoid persecution and prosecution. This sweet, innocent, young child was having so many seizures that her life was in danger and she could not function at an adequate level to be a happy young child, bedridden by countless harmful pharmaceuticals. She escaped to Colorado and under the guidance of medical professionals, is now seizure free thanks to medical cannabis and is healthier than ever. Read more about this brave young Texas refugee Alexis Bortell here. Sadly, she one of millions of Texans victimized by the persecution induced by despicable politicians and ignorant law enforcement officials who violate their oath to the constitution on a daily basis. This needs to end now. Our complacency and apathy as citizens has helped to put us in this position. I encourage all Texans to utilize the link I have provided to locate your elected representatives and contact them to let them know your disapproval of the state locking Texans in cages for making safe medical decisions that cause no harm to society: http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx
We are at a critical time right now because the Texas legislature will be in session soon and this is the only time that they pass new laws. Once this session ends, we don’t have a chance at change for another two years. It is vital to make our voices heard now.
Shouldn’t medical decisions that are vital to one’s health be made by the patient and doctor of an individual as opposed to being controlled by state officials who have no medical training and are corrupted by the drug cartels, pharmaceutical lobbies, and prison industrial complex? Is it logical for someone to consume dangerous pharmaceuticals when a harmless medicinal herb is available as a safer and more effective alternative? Shouldn’t that choice be left to the individual since our country’s forefather’s preserved our natural rights with our United States Constitution? Why is this so hard for Governor Abbott to understand? Is he ignorant, corrupt or just plain evil? The argument against cannabis carries no credibility or basis of fact. Whether you are an atheist or religious person, common sense should always override fallacy. Protecting the weak and sick in our communities is one of the most vital obligations in a civilized society. The government’s only authority on this matter is to protect our right to consume whatever medical remedy we choose, not to impede on our ability to live the highest quality of life available. A state of affairs that allows you to be locked in a cage for using a medicine is an authoritarian state; an un-American society, and a society that spits in the face of the original founding Texans who believed in the concepts of freedom and personal responsibility.
Mr. Abbott let me ask you…. What if there was a law that threatened to lock you in a cage to deprive you of items that are medically necessary to allow you to live a good quality of life? Would you feel wronged? Would you feel intruded upon and violated? I bet you would be very upset if the state said that you do not need a wheelchair because crutches are readily available, and therefore, they prohibit the use of wheelchairs. What if the state took your wheelchair and put you in jail for using one? Sounds cruel doesn’t it? Especially when depriving you of your wheelchair makes no logical sense considering that you are harming no one by using a wheelchair and not allowing you to use one would be inhumane. When compared and contrasted from that perspective, opposition to and the prohibition of medical cannabis reveals the repulsive hypocrisy and senselessness. Every family that is victimized by your refusal to do your job knows this feeling. Depriving one’s right to medical freedom is the epitome of authoritarianism yet you are the same clown that pretends to understand and honor the constitution. The people of Texas are more awake than ever and we demand that you and the other elected representatives act in the interest of liberty by carrying out the will of the people and lead the effort to ensure medical freedom for all Texans rather than stand in the way of it and make disparaging comments to intentionally delegitimize the growing movement to end medical tyranny. What kind of patriot or constitutional advocate are you that your conscience is at peace with sending war veterans to jail for using cannabis to relieve PTSD when they have done more to serve their country and defend freedom than you have ever done as an elected official? You are a disgrace to what the American constitution stands for and a disgrace to the state of Texas.
