BEAUMONT, TEXAS A cell phone video has caught an educator pummeling a student in the head several times and calling him an “idiot ass”. Mary Hastings, a public school teacher at Ozen High School in Beaumont is the named culprit.
Hastings was immediately removed from the classroom and arrested. The district said that” it does not condone employees abusing any children and will not tolerate such conduct.” Hastings was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on the misdemeanor charge and shortly posted bond and was released. There are many other ways to handle students who irritate the teacher, and physically assaulting them with violent strikes to the head is not one of them. However turning over your children to the state for them to be molded into an obedient citizen is the fault of the parents. Parental supervision and filtering of the education that is provided is not within reach when they spend five days a week, eight hours or more a day under the watchful eye of the government. Hopefully this leads more parents to decide to choose alternative methods of education for their kids, and get them out of the state-run, tax-payer funded, four-walled institutions.
Ozen High School has given the abusive Hastings a paid vacation, and the school district has released this statement:
“The Beaumont Independent School District can confirm that an Ozen High School teacher was arrested today for physically assaulting a student. The conduct was substantiated by video footage viewed by BISD police and administration. The District is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students. BISD does not condone employees abusing any child and will not tolerate such conduct. The teacher was immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave pending action on her contract.”
