The Internal Revenue Service has been the center of a massive controversy over the alleged targeting of conservative organizations dating back to before the last presidential election feature Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Mysteriously disappearing emails and hard drive crashes only add fuel to the speculation that Lois Lerner and other IRS employees were politically motivated in their actions.
From April 2010 to April 2012, the IRS approved only four applications from conservative groups with names like “Tea Party,” “Patriots,” or “9/12” while green-lighting applications from several dozen organizations whose names included the likely left-leaning terms “Progressive,” “Progress,” “Liberal,” or “Equality.”
