Obama and family visited Saudi Arabia Tuesday to pay their respects to the late King Abdullah, a defender of torture, religious persecution and lashings. Yet the first Google News link I find about this event, is how Michelle didn’t wear a headscarf, but she did when she went to Indonesia. First off, unless Michelle is a Muslim, why would she wear a headscarf? Second, why are we not talking about the tragic human rights record of Saudi Arabia? Public Relations is a real thing, but we are at a pivotal time where we want a leader who will stand up for us and our way of doing things. Show the world the “American Way”, which was freedom of the individual. This ideology is becoming less accepted here in the states, but it’s basically illegal in Saudi Arabia.
According to many human rights organizations, Saudi Arabia is known as being the worst of the worst when it comes to human rights. A 19-year old woman was kidnapped and gang-raped by seven men. She received 200 lashings for “being with an unrelated (not family) man” when the crime took place. King Abdullah had the courage to pardon her, but never acknowledged the injustice. This made some call him a reformer, but his record says otherwise. Here is a list of some things that are illegal for Saudi women: voting, driving, or being treated in a hospital or travel without the written permission of a male guardian.
Why is it such a big deal that Obama went to Saudi Arabia? Because we don’t have a great record on human rights either. From Guantanamo Bay to the NDAA, our government is not concerned with anyone’s rights when you’re suspected of a crime. The War on Terror is still in bloom and unlawful traffic stops are occurring every day. It’s hypocritical for Obama to go to Saudi Arabia when a King dies, but make no time to visit the funerals of dead soldiers or citizens murdered by their police department.

Nooo…The LAST thing we need is another president arrogant enough to try to meddle in the affairs of another nation and show them the “American way”. That’s how we get into one quagmire after another, in one Krapistan after another. We don’t need anymore damn interventionist conservative thinking across the globe. We need to let them self determine unless and until their own people raise up to overthrow it and ask for out help or we are directly threatened by it. These people who live there know full well what the laws there are. They could drop into a US consulate or embassy and seek asylum or leave the country if they wanted. It’s tragic and they’re barbaric, but it’s not out JOB to spread “democracy” to these people. If they yearn so much to be free, they can give themselves freedom.
