This past Friday night 31-year-old Ruben Garcia, a hard-working father of four was on his way from work excited about spending the weekend with his family. Grapevine Police decided to stop him on 121 near the Euless and Grapevine border. Witnesses say that he was out of the vehicle with his hands up, he then receives two rounds to the chest from 2nd year Officer Robert Clark and later died at (JPS) John Peter Smith Hospital in nearby Fort Worth. His wife Martha Romero was worried when he didn’t show or arrive home at his usual time from Friend Equipment where he was a welder. After several attempts trying to contact her husband she received a call from JPS saying that he was in intensive care following an accident.
Police Spokesman Robert Eberling said to the best of his knowledge there were no weapons found at the scene. The victim also had no criminal record. Family, friends, and the public are demanding the release of the dash cam footage which is public record. Ruben’s boss, Eric Friend told KTVT that Mr. Garcia was ready to go home and have a nice weekend with his family and was in cheerful spirits. Mr. Friend said “What happened? and what did the officers see? That they had to use deadly force?” Brother in law Fernando Romero suspects the dash cam footage will clearly show the officer at fault in Garcia’s death. Mr. Romero was quoted “in what way did he feel threatened? In what way did he feel my brother-in-law would harm him?” His widow Martha Romero said “The last thing he’d want to do is get in trouble with the law.”[adinserter name=”Post Ad”]
Dallas area well-known Attorney Domingo Garcia released a statement “On Friday night Ruben Garcia was stopped by Grapevine Police Officer Robert Clark, despite being unarmed and with his hands in air, he was shot and killed. It’s all on video, including the officer using a host of profanities against him before shooting him twice at point-blank range. This is much worse than Ferguson, today his widow Martha and her four children the oldest 10 are asking for justice and for the officer to be held accountable.” There are requests being engaged now to release the Police video, you can help by calling the GPD Police Chief Eddie Salame at 817-410-3204. A protest event organized by Next Generation Action Network is planned at the Grapevine City Hall on Tuesday March 3rd at 7:30pm. Event Facebook Page and also at #justiceforrubengarcia
